Introduction
Sarah Thursday is a music-obsessed Long Beach poetry advocate who has written poetry since she was very young. In 1992, she made her first chapbook and continued with four more up through 2001. She took about ten years off from poetry and focused all her creative energy into teaching. After a series of major life events, she began writing again and connected with the local poetry community for the first time. Through a bi-monthly workshop called The Poetry Lab, she was inspired to begin a website to feature local Long Beach poets and poetry events called Cadence Collective. The website provided opportunities to connect to other poets in her community and co-host a monthly reading with G. Murray Thomas called “2nd Mondays Poetry Party“. In 2014, she founded Sadie Girl Press to explore her other passion: the layout and design of print books. She has since published many chapbooks and anthologies, incorporating writers and artists she loves. She has been published in many fine journals and anthologies, interviewed by Poetry LA, and received a 2017 Best of the Net nomination for “To the Men who told me my Love was not enough.” Her full-length collections, All the Tiny Anchors and Conversations with Gravel, as well as her most recent chapbook, Seventeen Poems Not About a Lover and others are available now at SadieGirlPress.com. Follow her here or on Facebook or Instgram.
