Back in March 2017, I was privileged to feature at an event at Hellada Gallery with other phenomenal women in my community to celebrate National Women’s History Month. It was hosted by Tiffany Dawn Hasse and included some of my favorite poets in the Long Beach community: Shy But Flyy,Elmast Kozloyan, Erin Foley, and Tina Lim. What’s even more incredible is that the owner of the gallery, Marek Dzida, recorded the entire event live on this really neat online TV platform called Periscope. If you have time, you can watch the entire event. If you only have a little time, my set begins at 2:01:00.
Very excited to join all these Women of Wonder on Wednesday, August 23rd, for a night of poetry, music, and art. Each of these women, Rachel Galindo, Tiffany Dawn Hasse, Shy But Flyy, Melissa Lussier, and Yeggi Kaela Watts, is a force in our Long Beach community! The wonder begins at 7 pm at 250 W. Ocean Blvd. in Long Beach. Check out the Facebook event page for more details!
Here I am reading a few poems for the event I did a couple months back, Long Beach Underground. It’s less than ten minutes to play. Really, you can listen without watching too. Thanks to Sanjin Obi Malesevic for putting it together!
I’m thrilled to be included in the lineup of performers for the first ever Long Beach Underground “Best of Open Mic”. Peter Basson and friends are launching a website and event series to showcase a variety of local talent associated with our fair city. My dear friends, Shy But Flyy, Alyssandra Nighswonger, Felicia Cade, and Chestina Craig will be some of the features I get to share the stage with. Join us on Saturday, October 1st, at 7 pm at The Mirage Cafe at 539 East Bixby Road, Long Beach. I go on second, so get there early!
Rebel Bite Open Mic, hosted by the eternal Shy But Flyy, will be featuring Larry Duncan and Sarah Thursday with BobKat on Monday, March 7th. Singers, musicians, comedians, and poets are all welcome to sign up and share starting at 7 pm! We will still be celebrating our newest releases, Larry’s Drunk on Ophelia chapbook, and my How to Unexist poetry CD. BobKat is bringing the rockstar jams to back the poetic words. Rebel Bite has excellent pizza and an extensive beer list, so bring your appetite!

For the second year in a row, I am joining forces with the ZZyZx Writers on the Poetrypalooza Tour! This year, we’ll be at DiPiazza’s on August 9th from 3:00-6:30. Hosted by Nathan Douglas, this event features many amazing talents such as Shy But Flyy, Richard Torres, Terry Wright, Fernando Gallegos, and musical guests Robby Ravenwood and the Fun House Porcupines. Come out for a fun filled afternoon, stay for some of the best pizza in town!
Prose, Rhythm & Noise is a FREE downloadable recording from our poetry & jazz filled night on March 15th. Listen to myself, G. Murray Thomas, Keayva Mitchell, Dave Williams, Shy But Flyy and more performing poetry with a improvisational jazz band. It was an honor to share a stage with these incredible musicians and poets. I promise this will be worth the few minutes to load it on your iPod or burn it to a CD and listen to on your way to work. mbtmusic.bandcamp.com
Dave Williams is a fantastic musician, specializing in magical trumpet playing, also hosts Excursions: A Sight & Sound Festival. The event has music, poetry, and poetry with music! I am excited to be invited to participate reading poetry on Sunday, March 15th, from 5-8 pm, at CALB at the Shore located above Shenanigans Irish Pub in Shoreline Village. Even more excited to be joining two of my favorite Long Beach poets and friends, Shy But Flyy and Keayva Mitchell. Check out more details on the Facebook event page!
