Seventeen Poems Not About a Lover Recordings on Soundcloud
April is National Poetry Month (NaPoMo) in which poets attempt to write 30 poems in 30 days. One of my big goals of 2018 is to really focus on my personal poetry again, so I thought I’d dive into 30/30 this year after a 5 year hiatus. So it hasn’t worked exactly how I meant it to. Instead of writing a new poem every day, I decided to do a poetry focused thing every day. Writing, revising, hosting, featuring, and recording. To celebrate the upcoming release of my new chapbook, Seventeen Poems Not About a Lover, I recorded all 17 poems and posted them on a playlist on Soundcloud. Click here and let me know what you think!

Recording from “Women in Poetry Night” at Hellada Gallery on March 2017
Back in March 2017, I was privileged to feature at an event at Hellada Gallery with other phenomenal women in my community to celebrate National Women’s History Month. It was hosted by Tiffany Dawn Hasse and included some of my favorite poets in the Long Beach community: Shy But Flyy,Elmast Kozloyan, Erin Foley, and Tina Lim. What’s even more incredible is that the owner of the gallery, Marek Dzida, recorded the entire event live on this really neat online TV platform called Periscope. If you have time, you can watch the entire event. If you only have a little time, my set begins at 2:01:00.
Women of Wonder at the Wine Bar
Very excited to join all these Women of Wonder on Wednesday, August 23rd, for a night of poetry, music, and art. Each of these women, Rachel Galindo, Tiffany Dawn Hasse, Shy But Flyy, Melissa Lussier, and Yeggi Kaela Watts, is a force in our Long Beach community! The wonder begins at 7 pm at 250 W. Ocean Blvd. in Long Beach. Check out the Facebook event page for more details!
Long Beach Underground Video
Here I am reading a few poems for the event I did a couple months back, Long Beach Underground. It’s less than ten minutes to play. Really, you can listen without watching too. Thanks to Sanjin Obi Malesevic for putting it together!
Kai Arrives at the Moon Recording
A poem I wrote for my niece to welcome her into womanhood.
Long Beach Live
Several months ago, I was approached by Peter Basson to be a part of a new project he was working on. Like myself, he is a huge fan of the local Long Beach talent and wanted to find a way to showcase and promote as much as possible. He and his conspirators held a multi-disciplinary launch party to coincide with the launch of the website, longbeachlive.org. The goal is to feature local talent in a live performance series and through online promotion.
Each artist has a bio page with samples of their work, and I am happy to have two previously unpublished poems included, “Shed My Skin” and “The Congregation”. I was very happy the second one was chosen because it focuses on my love of the open mic scene here in Long Beach.
Please check them out and send them some of your own work if you are also part of the Long Beach (CA) area!
Long Beach Underground Open Mic
I’m thrilled to be included in the lineup of performers for the first ever Long Beach Underground “Best of Open Mic”.  Peter Basson and friends are launching a website and event series  to showcase a variety of local talent associated with our fair city. My dear friends, Shy But Flyy, Alyssandra Nighswonger, Felicia Cade, and Chestina Craig will be some of the features I get to share the stage with. Join us on Saturday, October 1st, at 7 pm at The Mirage Cafe at 539 East Bixby Road, Long Beach. I go on second, so get there early!
Showchella-Polooza August 2016!
One thing I love as much as poetry, music, and art: community! On Saturday, August 20th, I am honored to be included in this amazing FREE community event that is showcasing local talent right in Long Beach. I get to share a stage with these talented people I also get to call friends. It’s an outdoor family-friendly event that begins at 12:30 and continues to 6:30, located at the Bandshell in Recreation Park off 7th and Park Ave. Check out the Facebook event page for event more details.
