Not only will I be co-featuring with two of the most love filled poets I know, Boris Ingles and Karineh Mahdessian, but it will take place in the brand new North Long Beach Public Library in the neighborhood where I spent all my teen years and first began my journey as a poet. Hosted by the lovely liz gonzález, the Uptown Word Reading & Arts Series brings authors and artists to Northtown. The reading starts at 1 pm and includes an open mic. Cadence Collective 2nd Monday Poetry Party

From the Long Beach Post!!!

Cadence Collective, founded in 2013 by local poet Sarah Thursday, author of All the Tiny Anchors (Sadie Girl Press, 2014), is a site that features poets from Long Beach and the surrounding area, and reliably turns out stunning poetry and visual work by local artists.

In addition, Thursday edits annual anthologies, bringing Cadence Collective’s carefully curated online presence into an expertly-made physical form. Along with these lively poetry projects, Cadence Collective also runs monthly readings the second Monday of every month at Fox Coffeehouse.

From arrival, Sarah Thursday roamed the room, welcoming and encouraging all in attendance to share their work. Vegan fare and coffee cups in hand, people continued to pack into the cozy room to the extent that we spilled over into a second, necessitating the creation of an ad hoc second seating area. Thursday and her co-host G. Murray Thomas, author of Cows on the Freeway(iUniverse, 2000) and My Kidney Just Arrived (Tebot Bach, 2011), commented on the slew of new faces in the audience.

Like a Girl: Perspectives on Feminine Identity

LaG Cover side by side

Like a Girl: Perspectives on Feminine Identity is an anthology of poetry, prose, and art based on what it’s like to be a girl. I had the privilege of collaborating with co-editors, Nancy Lynee Woo and Terry Wright, on this year long labor of love. We spent countless hours sorting through hundreds of submissions, painfully narrowing the selections down to this beautiful collection. This has been by far the most challenging project I’ve worked on, stretching and honing my design and layout skills to the next level. The visuals are only half the story. The impact to the heart continues when you read the poems and stories shared by vastly talented people. Each time I get to meet one of the contributors in the book, I feel like I’ve met a old friend part of a grand feminine community.

On Sunday, October 25th, we’ll be having our second release event in our home city, Long Beach. Many contributors will be reading and sharing their art at Warehouse 1333, located at 1347 Redondo Ave in Long Beach, starting at 1 pm. Find out more on the Facebook event page or LucidMooseLit.com!

Poetry Bleeding 2015, #5

11238231_775400425911964_3136122968754358707_n

I honestly never get tired of reading poetry at the heart of my creative community, Viento Y Agua Coffeehouse and Art Gallery. Once again, I have to honor of reading for the Poetry Bleeding reading series hosted by Alan Passman on Saturday, October 3rd, starting at 7 pm. Come out, get a yummy coffee drink or smoothie (my favorite is the vanilla lavender shake), and listen to an evening of local poetry.
